Welcome to the world of Curvicality: a magazine – and community – for curvy, plus-size women.
All of us at Curvicality were saddened to learn of the sudden death of Heather A. Nelson this month. Before she died, she wrote this essay, which we share here as a remembrance of her. We offer our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved her. You can leave a kind comment for her loved ones. (We’ve included a link to her obituary at the bottom of this article.)
Being plus-size is a beautiful thing. My curves are round, my thighs are thick and wide. I feel enormous love and pride for myself. We are not all meant to look the same or wear the same size, just as our race and skin color are not the same.
So, I told you that I am 6 feet tall, right?
Single mom of two teenagers, formal wear style consultant, former teacher and … plus-size beauty queen?
I am 42 and I had a heart attack. But the worst part (yes, worse than suffering a heart attack!) was repeatedly explaining that my weight had nothing to do with it.
